This study analyzes Surah Yusuf through the theoretical framework of George Herbert Mead’s symbolic interactionism, aiming to uncover the social mechanisms embedded within its narrative structure. Focusing on three core components—symbol, the generalized other, and meaning—the research adopts a sample-based approach to identify and examine verses that reveal communicative symbols, processes of meaning-making, and the ways in which characters engage with various forms of the “other” in social contexts. The analysis demonstrates that the main figures in the Surah—including Yusuf, his brothers, Ya‘qub, and other actors—organize their actions through the interpretation of symbols and, in relation to the generalized other, either reproduce social norms or transform them at critical moments. The findings indicate that the verses of Surah Yusuf function not only as a historical narrative but also as symbolic models that illuminate mechanisms of mutual understanding, identity formation, behavioral regulation, and the reproduction of social relations. By highlighting the centrality of symbols and meaning-making processes in human interaction, this study argues that Surah Yusuf can be understood as a socio-interpretive text that reveals the complex layers of action, communication, and social representation within its narrative
