Abstract
This dissertation analyzes and compares the storytelling techniques in the novels Minutes in the Last Dimension by Balmani Basma (published in 2023) and Siavash by Farzan Parsafard (published in 2016). In the first novel, the author has presented a multi-layered and complex story by utilizing modern methods in narrative and paying attention to key elements such as time and place. He creates a literary world using techniques such as polyphony, nonlineartemporal shifts, and internal and external focalization. In contrast, the novel Siavash depicts narrative techniques from a social perspective, in the context of interpersonal relationships, failed love, migration, and loss. With simple but emotional language and relying on dialogue writing and nonlinear narration, the author has been able to create an intimate and tangible space for the audience. Techniques such as parallel narration, emotional reminiscence, and the use of various points of view have been effective in explaining the emotional layers of the novels in question. This thesis also attempts to analyze the content of the novels from the perspective of style and narrative perspective based on the approach of American comparative literature. The research method is descriptive-analytical which examines various semantic layers. The results show that these works, despite their stylistic and linguistic differences, are a reflection of the identity crisis in the contemporary world.
Keywords: novel, Minutes in the Last Dimension, Siavash, Narrative techniques.
