Naguib Mahfouz’s Al-Baghi min-alzamn sa`ah is among the novels that portray Egyptian society during the period of British domination and the people’s struggle for independence. As a realist novel, it reflects the social realities of Egypt and can be examined through the perspective of Georg Lukács Hungarian theorist. Lukács believes that literature is closely connected to society and that writers, as members of society, cannot separate themselves from the social realities surrounding them. From this perspective, the sociology of literature attempts to explore the association between literary works and the social conditions from which they emerge. This study seeks to analyze the representation of Egyptian society in Mahfouz’s novel within the framework of Lukács’s theory. Using a descriptive-analytical method, the research examines how the novel depicts major social issues such as poverty, superstition, suffering, and the transition from tradition to modernity. The findings suggest that Mahfouz successfully reflects the social and historical realities of Egypt through the events of the novel and the experiences of its characters. In addition, the characters’ conversations, viewpoints, and judgments further highlight the social problems of the period and provide readers with a clearer understanding of Egyptian society at that time.
