This research, within the framework of the French school of comparative literature and focusing on the "analysis of the image of a land in the literature of other nations," examines the scholarly and cultural representation of Khorasan in the first volume of the historical encyclopedia Wafayāt al-Aʿyān (Deaths of Eminent Men) by Ibn Khallikān. This work, compiled in 7th-century Hijri Egypt, serves as a treasury of biographies of prominent figures in the Islamic world from the early Islamic period up to the author's time. It contains valuable geographical, historical, and civilizational information about various cities and regions, including Greater Khorasan.Adopting a descriptive-analytical method and after delineating the historical and geographical boundaries of Khorasan, the present study examines the first volume of this book to extract and analyze the constructed image of Khorasan as a living and influential civilizational hub. This investigation reveals how, through the biographies of Khorasani scholars, literati, and sages, a complex network of scientific centers, schools, cities, and intellectual currents of this land is delineated, indicating Khorasan's unparalleled position in the production and dissemination of science and culture across the Islamic world. The findings of the research indicate that Ibn Khallikān's Wafayāt al-Aʿyān, particularly in its first volume, by focusing on Khorasani personalities, presents a rich image of Greater Khorasan as a scientific, literary, and economic pole within Iranian-Islamic civilization. By mentioning historical-geographical details such as the etymologies of city names, their founders, and their alternative names, the author highlights this land's central role in nurturing scholars and its complex urban network. This work introduces Khorasan on the eve of the Mongol invasion as an advanced "super-urban civilization" with a composite cultural identity and a flourishing economy
