Abstract
Non-normativity is one of the most prominent linguistic techniques in contemporary poetry, which plays an important role in de-familiarizing, highlighting language, and enhancing the aesthetic experience of the audience. Through this method, poets have transformed the standard language and created new semantic and artistic layers by breathing new life into words. Salman Herati, a prominent Persian-speaking poet, and Ali Mahmoud Taha, prominent figures in contemporary Arabic poetry, have extensively utilized the capacities of non-normativity in their works of stability and resistance. The present study, with a descriptive-analytical approach, conducts a comparative study of semantic, lexical, and syntactic non-normativity in the poems of these two poets. The findings show that their poems are full of deep and influential themes that have been manifested in the form of various non-normativity, especially semantic non-normativity in the form of metaphor, simile, discrimination, and other forms of imagination. These techniques play a decisive role, especially in representing key concepts such as martyrdom, anti-colonialism, and jihad. Based on the results, both poets have been able to add beauty and impact to their works by artistically utilizing non-normativity, although the extent and frequency of the use of these techniques in their poems differ.
